Historic parkland circuit with multiple layouts (International, Island, Fosters) - clockwise - fast, flowing cambers, the banked Shell Oils Hairpin and the dramatic Deer Leap finish
When was the track built?
Laid out through the Oulton Estate in early 1953 by the Mid-Cheshire Car Club with the Egerton family’s permission, Oulton Park opened in August 1953 and quickly expanded. Iterations through the 1970s to early 2000s added chicanes and safety features, leading to today’s International, Island and Fosters layouts under MotorSport Vision’s stewardship.
When was its first race?
The venue’s first race meeting was on 8 August 1953. Tony Rolt won the headline Formula 2 race, and a huge crowd returned for the second meeting on 3 October 1953, confirming Oulton Park as the North West’s new racing hub.
What's the circuit like?
- Old-school flow: Natural elevation and cambers link Old Hall to Cascades and the fast sweep to Island Bend - small errors snowball over multiple corners.
- Shell Oils Hairpin: Unique banked hairpin that rewards trail-brake rotation and early drive - a signature Oulton feature.
- Chicane and compression: Hislop’s into Knickerbrook punishes kerb aggression; commitment is key on the run to Druids.
- Grandstand finish: Lodge Corner leads to the blind Deer Leap - perfect for photo finishes and last-lap lunges.
- Benchmark pace: International layout race-lap record 1:28.619 (GB3). Recent GT3 and BSB laps sit in the low 1:33s and low 1:32s respectively.

BTCC, BSB and British GT all put on elbows-out shows here, with genuine overtakes at Old Hall, Shell Oils and Lodge. It’s one of the best places in the UK to feel car control with your own eyes.

- Old Hall (T1): Starts, restarts and classic out-braking into a downhill exit to Cascades.
- Cascades outside banking: See who carries minimum speed for the blast to Island Bend.

- Hislop’s/Knickerbrook: Kerb-attack commitment and traction onto the climb to Druids.
