When was the track built?

As a pop-up street circuit, Miami’s Biscayne Bay Street Circuit was laid out specifically for Formula E in 2015 using existing downtown roads and temporary barriers. The course threaded past the AmericanAirlines Arena and along the bayfront before returning to the start-finish on Biscayne Boulevard.

When was its first race?

The venue’s first race was the 2015 Formula E Miami ePrix on March 14, 2015, where Nicolas Prost won from a late-race duel, with Scott Speed second and Daniel Abt third. Jean-Éric Vergne set pole and Nelson Piquet Jr. recorded fastest lap.

What’s the circuit like?

  • Street precision: Walls close in around 90-degree complexes, so braking trace and rotation are everything.
  • Slipstream factor: The long waterside straight made energy saving and timed overtakes decisive, especially into T1 and the late lap chicanes.
  • Event vibe: A one-off downtown festival race with marina backdrops, fan zones at Bayside and quick access to the Metromover.

Lap records and benchmarks

  • Formula E - pole: 1:05.953 - Jean-Éric Vergne - Andretti - 2015.
  • Formula E - fastest race lap: 1:07.969 - Nelson Piquet Jr. - China Racing - Lap 29 - 2015.
  • Formula E - winner: Nicolas Prost - e.dams-Renault - 2015.

Why go?

If it returns, expect downtown convenience, shoreline scenery and plenty of heavy-braking showdowns. Miami proved a natural fit for a city-center electric race with grandstands steps from museums, parks and the bay.

Where’s the best place to watch?

  • Biscayne Boulevard main grandstand: Starts, restarts and the drag to Turn 1.
  • Waterfront straight: Feel top speed build before late-brake attempts into the complex.
  • Arena section: Great views of chicanes and traction battles out of slow corners.

Not just one series - context

Formula E: Miami was Round 5 of the inaugural 2014–15 season. While only held once, it showcased a U.S. urban template later echoed by New York City and Portland street races.
