When was the track built?
Wakefield Park was created by Paul Samuels and John Carter as an accessible permanent venue for club and historic motorsport. Construction began in 1993, and the circuit opened the following year.
Noise restrictions eventually forced the venue to close in 2022. Steve Shelley purchased the property in 2023 and began an extensive redevelopment rather than simply repairing the old course.
The work included a complete resurfacing, reprofiled corners, additional runoff, a 400 m pit lane, upgraded drainage and large earth banks designed to reduce noise while providing new spectator viewpoints. Competition returned during 2024 under the name One Raceway.
When was its first race?
An informal shakedown meeting was held in May 1994. The first full race meeting followed on 19-20 November 1994, organised by the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association.
Approximately 240 entries competed across nine grids, although the varied historic programme means there was no single winner representing the entire inaugural meeting.
What's the circuit like?
- Two directions: Drivers must learn different braking points, sight lines and corner combinations depending on the configuration.
- Undulating terrain: Crests and changes in elevation can temporarily reduce grip or hide the next corner.
- Fast and flowing: The rebuilt course allows vehicles to remain at speed for longer than on the former layout.
- Technical sequences: Several corners connect closely, so an early mistake can affect a large part of the lap.
The Wakefield configuration runs clockwise and retains the direction traditionally associated with the venue. The anti-clockwise Shelley configuration gives familiar sections a very different character, particularly where braking zones become acceleration zones.

The two directions have separate records. Times from the original Wakefield Park layout should not be compared directly with laps on the rebuilt 2.35 km circuit.
Why is it famous?
Wakefield Park became one of Australia's best-known club circuits because it provided an approachable venue for competitors who could not regularly use larger professional tracks.
It hosted Australian Superbike, Formula Ford, Formula 3, GT, production-car and Supercars development-series competition. One Raceway preserves that grassroots role while adding the unusual ability to conduct racing in both directions.
What events are held here?
The programme combines national championships, state racing and public track activities. Events include the Wakefield 300 endurance race, Australian Superbike competition, NSW Motor Race Championships, Formula Ford, historic cars and motorcycles, Hyper Racers and production-based categories.
The venue also runs car track days, motorcycle ride days, timed sessions, testing, skid-pan activities, driver training and private circuit hire.
Why go?
One Raceway remains an excellent circuit for spectators because its natural bowl and elevated viewing banks reveal much of the lap from one position. The dual-direction format also means returning visitors can experience a substantially different event without the physical circuit changing.
The track is approximately 12 minutes from central Goulburn. On-site parking and toilets are available, although visitors should check whether food vendors will operate at their chosen event.
Where's the best place to watch?
- Northern spectator mound: An elevated view across the circuit and one end of the main straight.
- Southern spectator mound: Good for watching braking, direction changes and pit-lane activity.
- Back-straight park-and-view area: At selected events, spectators can watch from beside their vehicles.
- Main straight: Best for starts, finishes, grid activity and pit stops during endurance races.
Admission, catering, paddock access and park-and-view availability vary between events. Check the organiser's current information before travelling, and remember that corner numbering changes with the direction of operation.

Getting to One Raceway (Goulburn, New South Wales)
One Raceway, formerly known as Wakefield Park, is just south of Goulburn in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. Driving or hiring a car is the easiest way to arrive, although trains to Goulburn make train plus taxi a practical alternative.
One Raceway & Wakefield Park
If you have visited the area before, you may know this venue as Wakefield Park Raceway. The facility has since been redeveloped and reopened as One Raceway, so use the current venue name when checking event information.
Older maps, hotel guides and motorsport websites may still refer to Wakefield Park.
Driving & parking (easiest way)
- From Sydney: follow the M31 Hume Motorway south towards Goulburn. From the Goulburn area, continue onto Braidwood Road towards Tirrannaville and the circuit.
- From Canberra: take the Federal Highway and Hume Motorway towards Goulburn, then follow Braidwood Road south to One Raceway.
- From Goulburn: head south-east on Braidwood Road. The circuit is only a short drive outside the city.
- Navigation: enter 4770 Braidwood Road, Tirrannaville, NSW 2580 or search for One Raceway.
- Parking: follow event signage when you arrive, particularly if competitor, trailer and spectator traffic is being separated.
Tip: Fuel up in Goulburn if necessary before heading to the circuit. Services become much more limited once you leave the city.
Train
- Goulburn Station: this is the most useful public-transport arrival point for One Raceway.
- From Sydney: NSW TrainLink services operate between Sydney and Goulburn, including services continuing towards Canberra and southern New South Wales.
- Station → circuit: there is no passenger train or regular public bus to the raceway, so continue by taxi or pre-arranged pickup.
- Return journey: organise your ride back to Goulburn before the event finishes, particularly for evening sessions.
Check NSW TrainLink before travelling, as weekend engineering work can sometimes replace trains with coaches.
Airports & transfers
- Canberra Airport (CBR): the nearest major passenger airport and normally the easiest choice if suitable flights are available.
- Rental car: strongly recommended. Hiring a car allows you to travel directly to Goulburn and use the same vehicle throughout the race weekend.
- Sydney Airport (SYD): offers a much wider range of domestic and international flights but involves a considerably longer drive south.
- Goulburn Airport: much closer to the circuit but primarily useful for general and private aviation rather than normal scheduled passenger flights.
Bus & local transport
Goulburn has local transport services, but they are designed around the city rather than One Raceway.
- For the circuit: do not expect a normal public bus to take you to the entrance.
- Taxi: the simplest option from Goulburn Railway Station or accommodation in the city.
- Event shuttles: only rely on a shuttle when your particular event specifically advertises one.
Where to stay
- Goulburn: the easiest base, with hotels, motels, restaurants, supermarkets and fuel around 15 minutes from the circuit.
- For multi-day events: staying in Goulburn keeps the daily circuit journey short while giving you easy access to shops and food.
- Busy race weekends: reserve accommodation early when a major meeting is scheduled.
Accessibility
- Limited mobility: travelling by car or taxi is normally the easiest option because public transport does not reach the circuit entrance.
- Before travelling: contact One Raceway or your event organiser to confirm accessible parking, drop-off locations and viewing arrangements.
- By train: arrange your taxi from Goulburn in advance if you need an accessible vehicle or assistance with mobility equipment.
