When was the track built?
The Seoul Street Circuit was a temporary track created for Formula E around the Jamsil Sports Complex. The route used existing roads before entering the Seoul Olympic Stadium, which had been the centrepiece of the 1988 Summer Olympics.
Formula E originally planned to race in Seoul earlier, but the event was delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The championship finally arrived in August 2022 for the last two races of the Gen2 car era.
When was its first race?
The inaugural Seoul E-Prix took place on 13 August 2022. Heavy rain made the new circuit extremely difficult, and an early multi-car accident interrupted the race.
Mitch Evans eventually won for Jaguar ahead of Oliver Rowland and Lucas di Grassi, keeping his championship hopes alive for one more day. The second race was won by Edoardo Mortara.
What's the circuit like?
- Lots of corners: Twenty-two turns are packed into only 2.618 km, so drivers had very little time to relax during a lap.
- Olympic Stadium section: The cars actually entered the stadium during the lap, creating one of the most unusual sights in Formula E.
- Narrow street sections: Concrete barriers sat close to the racing line, meaning small mistakes could quickly lead to damage.
- Changing conditions: Seoul's summer heat and humidity were already challenging, while heavy rain during the first race made grip particularly difficult to judge.
Formula E benchmarks
- First winner: Mitch Evans won the opening Seoul E-Prix for Jaguar.
- Final winner: Edoardo Mortara won the second race for Venturi.
- Weekend benchmark: Mortara recorded a 1:20.913 during qualifying for the final race.
- World Champion: Stoffel Vandoorne finished second in the final and secured the 2021-22 Formula E Drivers' World Championship.
- Historic milestone: The second Seoul E-Prix was Formula E's 100th championship race and the final race for the Gen2 generation of cars.
Why go?
Seoul offered something few racing circuits could match: Formula E cars competing on city streets before disappearing directly into an Olympic stadium packed with spectators.
The weekend was also especially important historically. It decided both the drivers' and teams' championships, marked Formula E's 100th race and brought the successful Gen2 era to an end.
Formula E has not returned to the Seoul Street Circuit since 2022. Planned races for 2023 were removed from the calendar because renovation work at the Olympic Stadium meant the same venue could not be used.
Where's the best place to watch?
- Olympic Stadium: The circuit's signature viewing area, allowing spectators to watch Formula E cars race directly through the historic stadium.
- Opening corners: A good choice for watching the tightly packed field fight for position immediately after the start.
- Stadium entry and exit: One of the most distinctive parts of the lap, combining technical corners with the transition between the open street circuit and arena section.
These viewing suggestions refer to the former 2022 Formula E configuration; the temporary circuit is not currently used for a Seoul E-Prix.

Getting to Seoul Street Circuit (South Korea)
The Seoul Street Circuit was a temporary Formula E course at Jamsil Sports Complex in southeastern Seoul. Formula E no longer races here, but the former circuit area is easy to reach by subway using Sports Complex Station.
Is the Seoul Street Circuit still active?
The Seoul Street Circuit is no longer an active Formula E venue. The Jamsil course hosted Formula E's final two races of the 2021/22 season in August 2022.
The barriers, grandstands and other motorsport infrastructure were temporary. Most of the surrounding roads returned to normal city and sports-complex use after the event.
The area is also undergoing major redevelopment in 2026, so parts of the old circuit may be inaccessible or look very different from the Formula E weekend.
Best way to get there
For most visitors, the subway is by far the easiest way to reach the former circuit. Sports Complex Station sits directly beside Jamsil Sports Complex and removes the need to deal with Seoul traffic or parking.
Once outside the station, use Seoul Olympic Stadium and the surrounding sports facilities as your main reference points.
Tip: Search for “Jamsil Sports Complex” or “Seoul Olympic Stadium” rather than looking for a current Seoul Street Circuit entrance.
Subway & public transport
- Sports Complex Station: served by Subway Lines 2 and 9 and located immediately beside the sports complex.
- Line 2: particularly useful from areas including Gangnam, Samseong and other major parts of Seoul.
- Line 9: provides another useful east-west route and connects with several other subway lines.
- From Seoul Station: use the subway network and make the appropriate transfer towards Sports Complex.
- Final walk: once at Sports Complex Station, the former circuit area is only a short walk away.
Use a current Seoul subway journey planner, as major construction around Jamsil can occasionally affect pedestrian routes and station exits.
Driving & parking
Driving is possible, but public transport is normally easier. Jamsil is a busy part of Seoul and large sports or entertainment events can create significant congestion.
- Navigation: use Jamsil Sports Complex, 25 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu as your destination.
- Parking: use currently available legal parking around the sports complex or nearby commercial facilities.
- Construction: the wider Jamsil Sports Complex is undergoing major redevelopment, so entrances and parking availability may change.
- No race parking: Formula E parking maps, road closures and spectator gates from 2022 are no longer relevant.
Incheon airport
- Incheon International Airport (ICN): the main international gateway for Seoul.
- AREX: trains connect both airport terminals with Seoul Station.
- Express service: the fastest trains reach Seoul Station in around 40–50 minutes depending on the terminal.
- Seoul Station → Jamsil: continue by subway towards Sports Complex Station.
- Taxi or transfer: convenient with heavy luggage, but road travel times can vary significantly with traffic.

However, the Olympic Stadium is undergoing renovation in 2026 and the wider Jamsil Sports and MICE redevelopment is beginning, so you should not expect to follow the complete former lap. Areas that were accessible during Formula E may now be behind construction boundaries.
The redevelopment is expected to continue for several years, so current site signage should always take priority over an old Formula E circuit map.
Accessibility
Sports Complex Station has lifts, escalators and accessible restrooms. However, construction around Jamsil may temporarily change the easiest pedestrian route, so visitors with specific mobility requirements should check current station exits and venue access before travelling.
