When was the track built?
Ground was broken on 5 April 1995 and the facility opened in July 1997 as Germany’s first major circuit in the former East. The arena-style site elevates spectator areas 6–8 m above track level for panoramic views. Ownership changes in 2005 led to upgrades in 2007, including the current tight Turn 1 intended to boost overtaking.
When was its first race?
The venue’s first race weekend ran on 25 July 1997 with Ferrari Challenge, followed by FIA GT and FIA F3000 season openers in 1998 that cemented Oschersleben’s international profile.
What's the circuit like?
- Stop-then-flow rhythm: The reprofiled Turn 1 funnels the field into a heavy stop, then the lap opens into sweeping direction changes through the Triple and on toward Hotel corner. Starts are lively and reward precision on cold tyres.
- Flat and technical: Minimal elevation puts emphasis on platform control, traction on corner exits and keeping minimum speed high through the linked mid-lap bends.
- Two personalities: Cars use the 3.696 km GP loop with the tight T1 - bikes typically use the 3.668 km “Moto A” without the same first-corner profile.
